How do we vet our nannies and guarantee you can leave your child in safe hands- Vetting process explained

The nanny background check should go through a rigorous process to ensure your child’s safety. We want you to feel as secure as possible when using our service, and we work hard to ensure that our candidates are reliable and can be trusted. At Little Ones, we have a thorough process in place to guarantee you are leaving your child in safe hands.

Once you hire your Nanny through Little Ones, here’s what happens:

Your Nanny will be required to pass levels of verification before they can start working for you. It involves submitting their personal information as well as their national background check. They will also complete an extensive interview with us where we verify their identity.

That’s why we have developed a thorough vetting process in place. This process ensures that all of the nannies on our platform are safe and trustworthy individuals who can be counted on. In addition, Little Ones ensures that only the best candidates for your child are selected. We start with personal interviews where every candidate answers questions about their background, qualifications, and references.

1. Comprehensive profile and background check

The first step in our vetting process is to ensure your Nanny has a comprehensive profile and background check. This includes checking their:

  • Profile and references
  • Qualifications and skills
  • Experiences of caring for children (if applicable)
  • We also check that they hold all appropriate qualifications, such as First Aid training, DBS certificate, etc.

2. References Check

Vetting your Nanny’s references is the second most crucial part of our process. This helps us to get a sense of what they’re like at work and home, as well as their professionalism and reliability. We check references from previous employers, previous nannies, babysitters, au pairs, housekeepers, cleaners, etc. - anyone who has worked with them regularly over the last two years.

Then we require personal references from former employers who are willing to vouch for them as having excellent connections at previous jobs and being responsible people who won’t cause trouble while working here at Little Ones. Suppose any of these references do not check out favourably; in that case, we will not proceed further with interviewing them.

3. Verified Documents

  • Verify documents and credentials
  • Check references (work, personal)
  • Check qualifications, experience, and certifications.
  • Check insurance
  • DBS Certificate check

4. Face-to-face interviews in our Central London offices or Zoom Video interviews

The first meeting is the most important part of the vetting process. We bring them into the office for a face-to-face interview, or we arrange a Zoom Meeting interview where their experience and qualifications are discussed at length, and we can obtain verbal references, which we then personally check ourselves.

After we’ve received the initial information, our team will conduct interviews with all of the candidates we have for your family. We always include one family member in these interviews so they can meet the person and ask any questions they might have.

5. DBS Checks

DBS checks are a requirement for all nannies. These are criminal record checks done by the UK government on behalf of employers using the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The DBS is an independent body maintaining up-to-date records of people barred from working with children or vulnerable adults in the United Kingdom. All employers must carry out ’appropriate’ checks before employing someone with contact with children or vulnerable adults. So if you wish to work as a nanny, you must undergo the same process as everyone else!

6. Paediatric First Aid Training

The one criterion every family requires from their nanny is a paediatric first aid (PFA) qualification. First aid training is an essential skill for anyone who cares for children. It’s also a legal requirement in many states and countries. So when hiring nannies to look after your children, you must ensure they have the required first aid skills before starting work with your family.

Understanding the skills and experiences relevant to your particular role is essential. For example, suppose you’re hiring a nanny to care for your children while you work late at the office rather than a full-time caregiver. In that case, they must have experience caring for children during evening hours or overnights. It’s also vital that they are used to preparing meals and helping with homework. By understanding what specific skills and experiences are needed for each position, we can ensure our candidates have those qualifications before putting them forward for an interview with you.

Our vetting process is rigorous and reliable. When you hire a nanny through Little Ones, you can trust that you will be matched with someone who is the right fit for your family. Ultimately, we want you to feel as secure as possible when using our service. That’s why we work hard to ensure that every candidate is reliable and can be trusted. Our thorough vetting process ensures that all applicants have gone through the correct checks and tests, so you don’t have to worry about whether your child is safe in their care.
