Caring for twins is a challenge many carers blessed with the opportunity are unprepared for. Whether you’re a parent or a nanny, it’s a challenge you need to be prepared for. Organization is key to ensuring you make it smoothly through each day. We've put together a ‘Survival Kit’ for caring for twins.

The basics

Nappies, baby wipes, formula, bottles…you’re going to get through it all twice as fast so make sure that supplies are plentiful.

A good buggy

Getting out and about with twins with a made for twins buggy will save time and energy. Whether you choose a tandem pushchair or a side-by-side style buggy, get something that works for you.

Organizational charts

Creating charts to keep track of things like feeding times and nappy changes will avoid any panics due to exhaustion and ‘baby brain’ thus making sure everyone is happy and healthy.

Friends with twins

Do some searching and see if there’s a group near you for other parents or carers of twins; together you can discuss experiences, offer advice which may helpful and also support one another as well as having the opportunity to socialize.

Sleep

When they’re sleeping, so should you. Don’t try to be a superhero; housekeeping and so forth can wait while you take care of yourself. When you’ve got two young babies you have to let some things slide. Taking the chance to sleep while it’s available is so important, not only for your own health but so that you are well rested and able to give them all your attention when they wake up.

Willing helpers

Parents and carers of twins need all the help they can get, so never feel guilty about letting friends and relatives lend a hand. Most of the time, they will be more than happy to look after them while you take a bit of the much needed me-time. Take advantage of any offers for help around the house.

Remember that as every day goes by, you’re learning, gaining experience and it will start to get a little easier. Soon they will grow up and won’t need the round-the-clock care they require now. So enjoy them while they’re cute and tiny.

Hire a Twins Nanny

Nannies specialising in twins: they do exist! If you can afford one, recruit one, life will be so much easier and stress free.
