The Montessori Method is a unique way of both educating children and teaching them independence and self-guided thinking, and one that's become very popular with parents. The basic theory of Montessori education is that a child learns best in a supportive environment where he is encouraged to discover, create and explore for himself under the guidance of trained staff. Children are also encouraged to think for themselves, make responsible choices, and to structure their own activities.

Characteristics of a Montessori classroom are mixed age groups of children, child-directed activities (where children choose what they want to do out of a list of options, activities are focussed  on children learning through experiencing rather than being taught directly), an integrated curriculum, individualised teaching, and specially trained staff. As such, a Montessori school lacks a lot of the formal structure that many of us associate with education.

Montessori education is a good choice for many parents, who feel that teaching children to teach themselves is a good educational philosophy. One of the many advantages associated with Montessori is that it is suitable for children of all learning styles. The way that lessons are designed means that it shouldn't matter if a child is a visual, aural or rote learner, all should be able to benefit from Montessori schools.

Here are several reasons to take our Montessori course:

  • You may have child in Montessori education
  • You could be a nanny to child in a Montessori school
  • You're simply curious about Montessori, or you're considering sending your child to a Montessori school and would like to know more about the methods before you make a decision
  • Perhaps your child is already in a more traditional school, but you feel he may benefit from Montessori methods at home.

Little Ones offer a one day Introduction to Montessori Education course, providing all the basic information you'll need about Montessori values and philosophy. Some of the topics you'll learn about include an introduction to child development, attachment styles, the history of Montessori education, and how to introduce Montessori methods at home.

The cost of the course is £81.50.
